May was a good month. I bought a new car, spent a night eating my weight in Indian food with friends, decorated my living room a bit more, had a family bike trip and picnic for Mother's Day, ran my fastest 5K, got my own domain, tried a class at Orange Theory, got brunch in the city with friends, and did the (Half) Murph Challenge for Memorial Day.

In spite of all that, my free time has felt very laid back. I never felt like I was trying to cram a lot of things into a short amount of time. May felt balanced.

On Overcoming Anger


In the process of growing and bettering myself, one thing that I have really tried to focus on in the past year is being positive, improving my overall attitude. I guess to put it more specifically, I've been trying to not be so angry.

Even though I'm happy in my life overall, anger and bitterness and other obscure negative emotions managed to gradually creep in. It happened slowly enough that I didn't even realize it. They made a home in me so snug that it seemed normal. I wasn't consumed by anger, but it did become a part of me. 

Looking back at the things that angered me so much at the time is embarrassing. Thinking of who I was and how I acted feels like I must be getting myself confused with someone else. I did that? I don't even recognize that person. Playful ~sassiness~ had turned into just being mean. Hypocritical statements and double standards were common. If my life was a TV show, I'd have hated my own character, and maybe you would have too.


Bullet Journaling Pt. I: The Beginning


If you like being organized and also like doodling or being creative, bullet journaling is for you. Or at least that's why I picked it up. When I first heard about bullet journaling, I thought it was strictly a tool to organize your to-do lists, and having pages upon pages of responsibilities and obligations didn't sound appealing to me. In actuality, though, bullet journaling is more than that. It's doodles, quotes, self-reflections, lists, schedules, ideas, whatever you want it to be.

The Bullet Journal website (yes, there is one, I just recently found out) describes it as "a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less."

Life, Time, And What To Do With It All


(Apologies in advance if this is a little all over the place. It's hard to have a clear train of thought on an abstract concept. Bear with me.)

The other night, I had a very interesting conversation with a friend about life and time and what to do with it all.

She said, "I just want to do something bigger (and if you ask what I mean, I don't even have an answer) and am struggling with how to do that."

I told her that I understood wanting to do more, but she should still feel satisfied and proud of where she's at in life now. I said she's still young and has so much time to do things.

"You're right, but at the same time, 'the trouble is you think you have time.' That quote has always lingered in my head. I never want to put things off assuming I'll do it later."

So how much time do we really have in life?
