5 Ways To Fit Exercise
Into Your Day

I'm a believer that if you really want to exercise and get into shape, then it's not about finding time, it's about making time. Fortunately, that can be easier and more fun than you might think.

For times when you wanna work out but also don't, when you're struggling to muster up the motivation, here are five ways to fit it into your day.

Multitask.
Who says that when you work out, that's the ONLY thing you have to do? A lot of my reading time is spent while on the stationary bike. I've also watched a show on my iPad while on the elliptical.  Two birds, one stone. For those times where you'd rather continue your Netflix binge than work out, do both. Lift dumbbells or do some ab work while you watch. You can get a good workout in without even leaving your home.


Play a sport with friends.
Especially with summer coming up, sports are a great way to get exercise while also having fun. Last summer, my boyfriend and I spent a lot of Saturday afternoons walking to a nearby park and playing tennis. Gather some friends together and go outside.

Bike instead of drive.
Another one of my favorite things to do in the summer is to bike whenever possible. If you want to go out to eat, look for a place in biking distance. You could easily get in an hour of exercise. I've even run a few shopping errands on my bike. (The plus side to that is that everything has to fit in my backpack, so it prevents those impulse buys too.)

Do yoga.
Some people are opposed to yoga without even trying it, but at it's core, it's just stretching. Anyone can do it and it's good for you. You don't have to do any crazy twists or bends. Just take 20-30 minutes to stretch yourself out, in the morning after you get up or at night before you go to bed. It'll do you a lot of good. Make it your "me" time.
Most importantly, it's all about how you frame it. Exercise is work, but it doesn't have to be something you dread. Work it into your schedule so it's something you look forward to. Go for a walk during your lunch break to destress, or once you get home after work to unwind from the day. Don't view it as an obligation, view it as time you get to yourself to kick ass.
