October Wrap-Up

Tuesday, October 31, 2017

Happy Halloween, friends! This is the first year I'm actually dressing up at work. The scarecrow costume I did on Saturday turned out so well that I decided to do it again today. I also bought a big bag of candy in hopes that kids in my apartment building go trick-or-treating inside the building, but that could be wishful thinking.

This month I thought to myself, what if I stopped blogging? Obviously, though, I didn't stop. The whole process can be motivating and discouraging and rewarding all at once. It's a coin I'm willing to flip. I wrote about living in the suburbs and why I like it. For anyone considering the Bikini Body Guide fitness program, or just curious about what workout routine I follow, I talked about my experience with BBG, sharing my takeaways and pieces of advice. My weekly three things included running into an old friend for the first time in three years, a reminder that fitness journeys don't have a finish line, and a theory about compliments we receive. Both of the books I read this month had me emotional and rooting for the main character.

October felt like it lasted forever, but I'm not complaining. It's been a good month.

I followed along Adriene's October yoga calendar and did yoga almost every day this month, which feels great. On days I didn't go to the gym, I made sure I at least went through a yoga routine, so I was active in some way every day. I'm proud of myself. I've felt more energized, more mentally and emotionally together, and it's making me more toned too, because yoga isn't just stretching (!). I'm definitely going to continue following the monthly calendars.

Another thing: I am in need of a mind-blowingly good book to read. Suggestions please!

We aren't here to fix people, we're here to love them and walk alongside them.

I absolutely love Brittany's post on body image during pregnancy, in which eight different women shared their experiences.

THIS, about how not everyone's end career goal is to be the head honcho.
Maybe it's not even that I'm less ambitious than others. Maybe it's just that my goals look different. Why does ambition so often have to come dressed in a power suit, with long hours, a fancy title and a big office? Simply defined, it's about having a wish and pursuing it."
After letting my mind wander and wondering, what if I stopped blogging?, a friend of mine revived her blog and put up this post which made me SO happy. (See, Self? It's worth it.) She also wrote a list of things she's learned during her pregnancy, from insurance to maternity leave to baby bump pictures.

Thoughts on the glamorization of work stress and how we use it to bond with others.

Zoe Sugg's two cents on world mental health day.

Hannah Gale talking about the low mood hangover.
Admitting that sometimes your head doesn't feel as rosy as the cute flowers you Instagrammed earlier that day is admitting that you are human."
What does the word "cool" even mean? Maybe nothing.

It is official: Ruthie Lindsey and Jedidiah Jenkins are friendship goals. Just look at how they love each other! Plus any video of the two of them singing in a car is always great.

"Stranger Things 2," of course. My boyfriend and I binged the entire season last weekend. Final thoughts: Max is annoying, episode seven was boring, it was still so damn good.

As if I didn't watch enough crime shows last month, this month I watched "Mindhunter," another Netflix original. It's a crime drama about FBI agents in the 1970s interviewing serial killers to learn about their psychology, before "serial killer" was even a term. The episodes aren't thrilling but are very interesting.

Lush's scrubee. If I could only use one product from Lush for the rest of my life, it'd probably be that one. It leaves my skin feeling ridiculously soft.

This tea tree oil shampoo from Maple Holistics. They kindly sent me a sample in the mail and I've been using it consistently for the past two weeks or so. With a lot of natural oils, it's supposed to be great for your scalp. Plus it leaves my hair feeling so soft. An added bonus: it's cruelty-free. You can your own free (8-ounce!) sample too.

I'm going to Colorado for the weekend to visit my friend and am very excited. I might vlog the trip to put my camera to good use, since I know that the hiking trails my friend is going to take me to are going to be incredible. Also, the fact that the clocks move back an hour on Sunday may or may not have been a deciding factor on the trip being this weekend instead of in two weeks.

Next month is also my birthday month and the start of the holiday season, both of which are very happy things.
