3 Things From The Past Week // 15

1 | Thanksgiving was last week, of course. I love this time of year. Thanksgiving is the kick-off to the whole holiday season.

When my sisters and I were younger, my family would do Thanksgiving letters. We'd draw each other's names out of a hat and whoever you picked was the person you had to write an anonymous letter to about why you're thankful for them. Then at dinner, we would each read aloud the letter addressed to us. We don't do that anymore, but we all still get together that day for dinner and games.

2 | This weekend I downloaded Be My Eyes, an app where you're essentially FaceTiming with someone who is blind or visually impaired to help them with something. I signed up on Thursday and got my first call Friday morning but someone had answered it first. (It rings multiple volunteers at once to ensure the person gets help, and whoever answers the call first is the one who gets connected.)

I encourage you to sign up as a volunteer. It's an easy way to do some good.

3 | My boyfriend and I finally got a new mattress and I'm thrilled. Our old mattress was very old. It was a hand-me-down, was too soft for our liking, and was also only a full size.

Since we've moved in together (back in April), we've had a disassembled queen-sized bed frame stashed around the apartment. The headboard was tucked behind a dresser, the footboard shoved to the back of a closet, the slats hidden under the bed. We knew we wanted to get rid of the mattress we had, buy a good queen-sized one and use it with the bed frame, but we hadn't gotten around to actually doing it until now.

It was a process. We (he) researched for a month or so before buying one. Then we found out the hard way that we were missing screws we needed for the bed frame, so the mattress was on the floor for a few days. But now it's done. I've never had a headboard on my bed before. It looks like a real adult's bed (aside from the teddy bear I still keep front and center).
