Upping My Skincare Game | My Current Nighttime Routine

Sunday, September 9, 2018

I've always been pretty good about taking care of my skin, removing my makeup before bed and washing my face twice a day. I give myself credit for that.

Overall, my typical routine is... typical. I use Vaseline to remove my eye makeup and Garnier micellar cleansing water for my face makeup. I wash my face morning and night with Olay's foaming cleanser for sensitive skin and moisturize with a standard bottle from Olay as well.

I'm only now adding other products into the mix and being more cognizant of what order to apply them. After taking off my makeup and washing my face at night, here's what I do:

Toner

When cleaning out my dresser drawers a week or two ago, I came across a box of Dermalogica products that I luckily received for free sometime last year and never opened. One of the products was this toner.

I've never used toner before. I never saw it as an essential step in the process. But if I have one, I might as well use it. Toners are meant to refresh your skin and prime it for maximize absorption of other products. It's hard to gauge the effectiveness of the latter, but so far, so good with this product. It does make my skin feel fresher once I spritz it on.

Spot treatment

I've gotten great use out of the Dermalogica Special Clearing Booster. While I generally don't break out too often, when I do, the spots are very noticeable. All spot treatments always say you'll see a difference overnight. With this, I actually have noticed results the next day.

Serum

I naturally have dark circles under my eyes and seem to be very prone to bags as well, which is unfortunate. There are a ton of treatments and serums for that kind of thing, most of which are way out of my budget. The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is only 7 dollars and actually works, keeping me looking like a functioning human.

Moisturizer

At night, I use Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion. I like it because it makes my skin feel hydrated and soft while still being lightweight.

Oil

The Stress Check Face Oil from This Works is intended to rejuvenate your skin when it's stressed out, whether that's lines and wrinkles, breakouts, dryness, what have you. You're supposed to apply it in the morning since that is when your skin is the most dehydrated. I do that sometimes.

Other times I apply a few drops to leave on overnight. Is that bad? Who's to say. But it makes me feel very pampered, which is half the fun of skincare.
